Understanding Your HVAC System:

Not sure what type of system you have? Here are a few quick ways to find out:

  • Check Your Existing Thermostat: The wiring terminals can often give clues (e.g., W, G, Y, R are common for forced air).
  • Inspect Your Indoor Unit (Furnace/Air Handler): Look for model numbers and labels.
  • Examine Your Outdoor Unit (Air Conditioner/Heat Pump): Note down any model numbers.
  • Consult Your Homeowner’s Manual: This should have detailed information about your HVAC system.
  • Contact a Local HVAC Professional: They can quickly identify your system type.

Why Choosing the Right Thermostat Matters:

Selecting a compatible ControlTemp thermostat ensures:

  • Optimal Performance: Your thermostat will communicate effectively with your HVAC system for efficient heating and cooling.
  • Safety: Incorrect wiring can damage your system or create safety hazards.
  • Full Feature Functionality: You’ll be able to utilize all the smart features ControlTemp offers, like energy savings, remote control, and personalized comfort settings.

Thank you for choosing ControlTemp Thermostats for your heating and cooling needs.

Our thermostats are very easy to install. They use the same wiring configuration as your old thermostat. Below are easy step by step instructions as well as a video on how to install your thermostats.

How do I install my thermostat?

You, your handyman, a licensed HVAC contractor, electrician, or your property management service department can install it according to the instructions provided with the product. We have designed this product for easy installation. Our thermostats install just like a regular thermostat, requiring only the connection of 4-5 wires.

Our Owner’s Manual, which accompanies your unit, includes complete details on how to install and program your thermostat.

Step by Step Guide to installing your thermostat:

  • Ensure that you turn off the power to the HVAC unit before you begin.
  • When disconnecting the old thermostat, be sure to take note of how the old unit was wired – which color wires go to which terminals. Take a picture of the old wiring before disconnecting the wires.
  • Ensure that you program your new ControlTemp Thermostat to the correct equipment setting before connecting the wiring.
  • Connect your new ControlTemp Thermostat to the wires from your HVAC unit. Be sure to match the wires to the appropriate terminals. NOTE: The color of the wires does not indicate their true function; therefore, it is important to tag each wire when you disconnect the original unit.
  • Once the thermostat is properly wired, restore power to your HVAC system.
  • If you have a heat pump, it may take up to 5 minutes before the HVAC unit turns on. This is due to the heat pump compressor delay ensuring sufficient time to decompress.
